According to ground-breaking research, the UK has a significant surplus of potential hydrogen storage sites directly linked to the main gas terminals. It could store all the hydrogen required to meet its winter domestic heating demand in one large field.


Our ground breaking research addresses global challenges facing the Earth, the environment and our societies. As the School of GeoSciences, University of Edinburgh we are one of the largest and most successful interdisciplinary groupings of geographers, Earth and environmental scientists in the UK, spanning the physical sciences, social sciences and humanities. Crystallites size (Dv) can be calculated by analyzing the XRD data using the Scherrer's formula, Dv = kλ/βcos(θ), where β is the structural broadening, which is the difference in integral X.
