Amazon entered the world of video conferencing back in early 2017 with Amazon Chime and a lot of reviewers just said 'meh.' Expectations were that Amazon would turn the video conferencing world on its ear with new innovations that would change how we communicate.

While that didn't happen, Amazon did deliver a very serviceable and stable system that is great for small offices and single proprietors alike. That's because it's super easy to use and there's virtually no learning curve, so it's great if you are busy running your business but need to make a good impression with potential customers and vendors.

Chime is secure, and there's nothing to deploy or manage, which means you don't have to spend time trying to figure out how to make sure Steve in Cleveland can access your video conference after lunch.

In fact, we found Amazon Chime so easy to use that we think it actually lives up to its slogan 'Frustration free online meetings.'

Is Amazon Chime Video Conferencing

Chime has some basic services that are free, with 'Pro' package services that are offered on a pay-as-you-go basis. With the Pro package, you can schedule meetings, start instant meetings, provide dial-in numbers, record meetings and have a maximum number of attendees.

Another nifty feature is Chime Pro's automated meeting system which calls the user when when the meeting is about to start. If you're wearing multiple hats running your business, that's a nice feature for sure.

Amazon Chime Video Conferencing Limit

In fact, we think Chime Pro is kind of like getting a personal assistant for your office. It's compatible with Alexa for Business, so you can use Alexa to set up meetings, dial into scheduled video conferences, and automatically dial into online meetings.

Chime Pro also offers calls, chat and content sharing capabilities both inside and outside your organization. And while there were initial complaints that downloading and logging into Chime had too many steps, we found the process quick and simple.

If you want just the basics you can opt for the free version, which provides very straightforward services including video, VoIP, dial-in from the public phone network, screen share, remote control, person-to-person chat and group chat. It also autocalls you when your meeting is about to start.

Pro features are billed at $3 per user per day with a limit of $15 per user per month, and there is no charge to use Amazon Chime Basic features.

New users can also get a free 30-day trial by creating an Amazon Chime account, and there's no credit card required. After 30 days, if you opt not to use the Pro services, you can continue to use the Amazon Chime Basic features for free.

In general, Chime users rate the app highly and report being pleased with its usability and service. As one user wrote: 'I love that this product has an app that allows my coworkers to IM me when I am out of the office via my cell phone. I have been able to collaborate remotely from using the app. In addition, the ability to do webinars is helpful. It is great to have all of this in one place.'

If you're a sole proprietor or have a very small office and need video conferencing capabilities, Amazon Chime is definitely worth the free 30-day test drive to see which features and functions you'll end up using most.
